Intro or Extro - Which Vert Are You?

Let's get to the good stuff. Where do you draw your energy - from people or alone time? That explains if you're an introvert or extrovert. K, byeee!

 

Kidding. It sounds simple. But what if certain people energize you and others exhaust you? I have friends that leave me feeing high on life (those are keepers btw) and I’ve also left lunches to file a police report because I was robbed of all my energy! 

 

Nothing is black and white and it’s common to feel a little all over the place. We’re human and can’t be so easily defined. Circumstances can bring out different sides of our personalities - whether it's for one night or two decades. 

 

Nature or nurture? Who really cares? I can't tell you which one you are, just like you can’t tell me what my dream was last night (hint: it involved birds). Regardless of where you fall, there are two things to be aware of:

 

  1. Protect yourself.

  2. Protect those around you.

 

No matter which side of the coin you’re on, each personality comes with a level of responsibility. Remember the three C's to become the best version of your group.

 

Check In

 

Do an emotional check-in with friends and family. This one is often easier for introverts, because they’re naturally in touch with their feelings. Extrovert, no matter how awesome your night out with friends is, and how much you know everyone wants to stay out until 4am, it’s important to check in with your quiet, introspective friends to see if they’re having the same experience. Introvert, don't spend your time at the party hiding in the bathroom, playing Candy Crush on your phone. Get social or head home - don't leave your peeps wondering what's wrong. 

 

Communicate

 

Introverts, make an effort to reach out to the people you love and make plans with them. Extroverts can feel like you’re ignoring them if you don’t want to hang out all the time. So check in, make plans, and communicate when you need some time alone – stressing that "it's not you, it's me."

 

Conscious Effort

 

Push boundaries for balance. If you're an introvert, it’s easy to wake up and realize you haven't seen your friends in a month. Don’t let it sneak up on you. Make a conscious effort to do something social a few times a month - keep a record if necessary. For extroverts, plan a night at home. Go to the movies by yourself. Hear your own thoughts and don’t look for distractions. Connect internally and make sure you’re in a good place.

 

Both personality traits have a lot to offer and you really can't have one without the other. Discover what you do best and capitalize on it. And when you're feeling spunky, see how you can stretch yourself and cross over to the other side.
